About the event
This event brings together faculty, scholars, and practitioners to explore how the medical humanities can respond directly and meaningfully to the urgent demands of health justice—especially in times of crisis, whether related to public health emergencies, social inequities, or systemic failures in healthcare delivery.
Rather than treating medical humanities and health justice as separate or abstract pursuits, this symposium emphasizes their convergence as a critical and actionable project. Our goal is to illuminate the power of interdisciplinary approaches—blending history, literature, ethics, art, and more—to confront structural injustice and reimagine more humane and equitable futures for health.
We especially welcome all faculty across the DC-Maryland-Virginia (DMV) metro area who are currently working in, adjacent to, or newly exploring the fields of medical humanities and health justice. Whether you're deeply engaged in this work or simply curious, this gathering is designed to foster dialogue, connection, and collaboration across disciplines and institutions.
